Colorado Gives Day is coming soon!

Giving where you live in this Season of Giving

Colorado's largest day of giving, Colorado Gives Day, is taking place on Tuesday, December 8th. This is the day thousands of people come together to support Colorado nonprofits like REC.

This 24-hour giving-day movement is a chance to increase the value of your donation thanks to the $1 million incentive fund created by the Community First Foundation and FirstBank.  While this is not a direct match, every dollar you donate will be increased.

This year, you can take advantage of a special opportunity to help us purchase additional buses we so desperately need.

REC has been gifted $15,000 from the WCCF/Bernie and Mary Beth Buescher Fund to help purchase a new used bus.  We would like to raise an additional $12,000 to complete the purchase of this bus.  We are still three buses short of what we need, so any additional funds raised will go towards another bus.

With your help, we can add buses to our fleet and offer more of our students the opportunity to experience new activities.  These activities create moments of a lifetime for many of our kids.

Moments like…

…a second-grade boy, who barely knows how to swim, finding the courage to inch towards the edge of the high dive at the pool to JUMP for the first time.  Triumph!

…a group of REC Middle School girls high fiving each other after finishing their first      challenging ride at the Lunch Loops.  Elation!

…our High School students working as a team to help unload gear after their first 2-night float trip on the Colorado River. Pride!

These confidence-building, wonder-inducing, and emotional moments are what guide REC students towards the social and emotional strength they need to become successful in life.

Help us impact our students' futures and the future of our community!
Use the button below to make your contribution to REC.

No matter the size, your contribution can help REC in so many ways:

$20 pays for one month of MiFi internet access for one REC family’s remote learning needs.

$50 provides school supplies for 5 Middle School students for 5 tutoring sessions.

$100 covers the direct tutoring costs for 20 Elementary students for one day.

$300 pays for a semester’s worth of career and college readiness activities for 6 High School students.

$500 covers the fees for 50 Middle School students to explore our community on a full-day field trip.

$1000 will buy one seat on a bus to safely transport students to enrichment activities and home after programming every day.

Be sure to boost your impact by pre-scheduling your gift for Colorado Gives Day, Tuesday, Dec. 8th.

Thank you for helping us help kids in the Grand Valley who need it most!

Restoring Our Faith...

...the Grand Valley community did that and more!

Many of you may have heard of the theft of one of our bike trailers, including the bikes and gear inside, from our warehouse parking lot in October.

It was a devastating blow.  Word got out, however, and the response was overwhelming!

Nearly 50 bikes and helmets were donated along with cash we were able to put towards a new trailer.

Bicycles are an important component of REC programming.  They provide an incentive for students to complete their school work with the reward of riding after tutoring.  They also are a tool we use to provide small challenges to the kids in a supportive environment - giving them the opportunity to problem-solve and gain confidence in themselves.

Most importantly, they allow us to provide a lot of smiles to kids who don't often have the opportunity to ride a bicycle.

Thank you to all of you who responded to our misfortune!  Special thanks to the Fisher Family Fund for their contribution towards our new trailer!

Supporting REC Under the CARES Act
(This is a re-post of an article from our April 2020 REC newsletter which includes pertinent tax information for our donors.)
REC is always thankful for the generous support we get from our friends in the Grand Junction community!

We are also thankful to know our donors will benefit from the Federal relief bill known as the CARES Act (Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Secrutiy Act).  In an effort to assist non-profits who are providing extra support within their communities, individuals and business who donate to REC can benefit from this bill in the following ways:

*  All donors can claim a one time above-the-line deduction for contributions up to $300 in the 2020 tax year.
*  For those who itemize their taxes, contributions are no longer subject to a limited percent of adjusted gross income.
*  The Corporate adjusted gross income percentage limit for cash contributions has been raised from 10% to 25%.

As always, check with your tax professional to confirm what the best tax strategy is for your situation.

Again, thank you for your support of REC and our mission to help kids in the Grand Valley who need it most!
11th Annual Taste of Riverside, To Go
Was a Huge Success!
What to do when it becomes painfully obvious your premier fundraising event cannot be held due to the challenges of COVID-19?  Get creative!  So we did!

While this year's Taste of Riverside sponsors weren't able to share an actual table, they did receive a half dozen tamales per guest, delivered with Alan's famous El Abuelo salsa, mini-bottles of tequila, Mexican wedding cookies, and other goodies in a re-useable bag.

The event included an on-line auction and the premier of our "Story of REC" video, which you can view at the bottom of this newsletter.

While it wasn't the same as sharing a relaxing evening of good food, good music and good friends, it still brought our REC community together virtually for a memorable evening.

Best of all, thanks to all who attended our 11th Annual Taste of Riverside, To Go fundraiser, REC was able to raise over $100,000!
Your overwhelming support allows us to provide quality after-school academic and enrichment programming to almost 400 underserved K-12 students in the Grand Valley.

Special thanks to our Title Sponsor, Timberline Bank, for believing in our mission.  For a complete list of supporters, please click on the "Taste of Riverside Donors" button below.
